Kingston’s Own Top Model

By: Whitney Fleming

Kingston This Week

Eight year old Annie F. doesn’t mind being the centre of attention anymore.

The Grade 3 Winston Churchill Elementary School student recently entered the Canadian Model & Talent Convention in Toronto, sweeping up three trophies and receiving five offers from various modelling agencies.

With a first place in photography, second in cover and third overall in her division, she never dreamed things would go this well.

In 2007, Annie thought that modelling was something she might like to try. She stepped out first with acting, performing at the Grand Theatre in the A Midsummer Night’s Dream as first fairy.

“I like learning scripts and parts and just having fun with it,” she says. “When I get up there and I do everything right, I feel just perfect,” she said beaming with excitement.

Now signed with Mode Elle Model & Talent Agency in Belleville, Annie regularly participates in television, photography, talent and runway competitions.

“Modelling is something that teaches good manners, how to act, feel confident and not to be shy,” she says.

Annie admits that before her modelling career flourished, she was a very shy and timid child. She now finds herself loving every minute of attention and seizes every chance to be front and centre.

Aside from modelling, Annie lives the average life of any normal eight year old girl. Enrolled in art school and being a blue belt in karate keeps her on her toes.

“I love to draw, read and play the piano,” she says.

Annie is also fluent in both English and her native Russian language.

“We are so proud of her,” says Annie’s mother Natalie. “When I look at her photos, I find myself thinking wow this isn’t my daughter is it?”

She says she is quite comfortable with her daughter modelling at a young age.

“I see it as a chance for her to open up and it allows her to share her imagination with people.”

“A lot of my friends think I’m pretty lucky when they hear about what I’m doing. They always wish me good luck,” says Annie. “I think I am going to be doing this for a long time.”
