One of Fort McMurray’s own did her little turn on the catwalk for some of the World’s Top Modelling & Talent Agents!
Jenna B., at just 10 years old, traveled to Toronto for the Canadian Model & Talent Convention, where she took part in modelling and acting competitions in hopes of getting noticed by someone in the industry.
This was the 17th year for the Toronto-based convention, which brings together modelling & talent agents with aspiring models, actors and entertainers. Applicants have the opportunity to show off their talents to get noticed at one of the largest gathering of agents and scouts.
Jenna was in competitions for photography, runway and cover modelling, as well as one in the talent portion for TV commercial acting. While she didn’t win any of the competitions, her mother said she did do very well and learned a lot from the experience. The bigger prize from the convention was the callbacks from industry professionals.
“There’s one day when you get off, and the callbacks are the biggest thing,” said Jenna.
She ended up getting a callback from a major management company that works with celebrities all over the world. While not currently signed with them, she is not set to be contacted in the event of castings where they would be interested in using her.
This is a good start for Jenna, who already has strong career aspirations. Whenever she is asked what she wants to be when she grows up, the answer is always a model. She said she likes the profession because of the love of fashion.
Stacey, Jenna’s mom, wanted the convention to give her daughter hands-on experience in the modelling industry. She said that it served as a learning experience for herself as well.
“It was a very good weekend. Jenna learned a lot about the industry and, being a mom, I learned a lot about what to expect,” said Stacey. “That is her dream, to be a model, but you don’t know until you’re right there and see what it’s all about.”
The convention is where a lot of successful Canadian models got their start. Former attendees have subsequently found themselves on the covers of major magazines, in movies like Mean Girls and even as Miss Universe.
