Local Model to Attend Model & Talent Convention
By Kim Norris
An enthusiastic smile spreads across Leah G.’s face as she discusses her future in modelling and acting. The eighteen year old Crestwood student was chosen to attend the 2009 Canadian Model & Talent Convention in Toronto.
Sixty five of the world’s top modelling and talent agents from cities such as New York, Tokyo, Milan, Los Angeles and Paris. The convention begins at the end of April and lasts for four days, where Leah will participate in many competitions including runway, improvisation, photography, commercial and monologue.
“Words can’t explain the excitement,” she smiles. Leah began her career with the Belleville based modelling and talent agency Mode Elle two years ago. Originally, Leah wanted to dive straight into acting – that is until she and her mother came across a Mode Elle. Having been convinced by her mother’s words that “it can’t hurt”, she signed up. It certainly paid off. Over the past two years, Leah has participated in many classes and workshops pertaining to both modelling and acting, helping her in both areas. She has also taken part in multiple photoshoots with professional photographers – her most recent being with Richard Sibbald, a talented photographer well known for his part in the popular Canadian television show “Look-A-Like”.
Leah has many goals and aspirations for her future. She plans to go to post-secondary school to study theatre and acting while she continues to advance her career in the modelling industry. Throughout high school she put her time and effort into acting in school plays and even directed a piece for last year’s Sears festival. Her direction of the play Liars was rewarded with an award of merit. Leah has also received the school’s Excellence in Drama and special Interest in Drama awards, as well as top marks in theatre. Leah’s talent and dedication to the arts is a sure sign of success in her future endeavours.
How does this eighteen year old balance modelling, acting and school while still holding down a part time job and living a normal life? The answer is simple – her family. “My parents are super supportive,” explains Leah. “They’d do anything for me.” Anything, which includes driving her to Belleville for Mode Elle commitments, to Toronto for auditions, helping rehearse her lines for all of her acting projects and faithfully attending every show, performance and photoshoot. “Most parents what their kids to be doctors or scientists, whereas my parents say, ‘As long as you’re following your dreams, we’ll support you’.
