For aspiring local models and actors, it’s going to be the opportunity of a lifetime.
For four days next week, the Canadian supermodels of tomorrow will be gathering at the Canadian Model and Talent Convention (CMTC) at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel.
Celebrating its 12th year in 2004, the convention, which runs from March 18 – 21 will introduce budding models and actors, including more than 50 from this area, to all kinds of industry-related seminars, question and answer forums, competitions and hopefully, at the end of the four days – call-backs and contract opportunities.
Local kids will have the chance to meet representatives from the world’s top modelling and talent agencies, as well as get the thing that models need the most – exposure.
“This will give models the opportunity to showcase their potential and skills over four days under one roof,” said founder and president of the CMTC Audra Anderson. “It will give them experience on the runway as well as interacting with the agencies. It will be a very valuable experience.”
Anderson started CMTC because she was always looking for conventions to take models to fast track their careers. The conventions of days past cost thousands of dollars to attend, Anderson said. “I didn’t want it to be a rich kid’s business,” she said.
She had a lot of support from international agents she knew in Paris, Milan, New York and Japan, who encouraged her to start her own agency in Canada.
“Canadian Models are in high demand, because they are known for being very natural in their appearance and for being very down-to-earth, grounded and disciplined,” she said. “And Canada also has a lot of ethnic diversity.”
She should know – the woman behind Canada’s premier model and talent showcase even is no stranger to the business as Anderson is a former model.
