CMTC Competition & Event Criteria, Rules and Regulations

RUNWAY COMPETITION
This competition is open to all modelling divisions. Contestants ages 12 & over are required to wear an outfit in black, white or colour combination of both only. Any other colours will be cause for disqualification. Child competitors ages 11 and under are permitted to wear an outfit of any colour. Each contestant will be permitted to enter the top of the "T", walk it's length (one time only) and exit off the stairs at the end of the stage. Standard upbeat runway music will be provided. No dancing or constant posing is allowed. Judging will be on poise, posture, personality, projection, runway techniques and the ability to walk and turn gracefully. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

PHOTOGRAPHY GO-SEE COMPETITION
This competition is open to all modelling divisions. Contestants will present their best two prints showcasing their photogenic potential and will be judged up close and personal directly in front of the judges. As in a true go-see situation, the contestant may or may not be asked questions by the judges. The contestant will stand in front of the judges, holding their two prints. The two prints MUST be loose and NOT contained in a portfolio or envelope. Prints can be colour or black & white and of any size from a 3 x 5 snapshot to a 9 x 12 standard portfolio-sized print. This competition is closed to the audience. Wardrobe is at the discretion of the Contestant. Judging will be on print potential. The decision of the judges will be final.

SWIMSUIT COMPETITION
This competition is available to all contestants ages 12 & over. Females must wear a two piece swimsuit, bikini bottoms only - NO SHORTS - and bare feet. NO body suits, lingerie, thong bottoms, leotards, or aerobic wear. Males must wear swim shorts or boxer shorts. NO Speedos! NO hosiery, shoes, props, hats, sunglasses or accessories will be permitted or disqualification will occur. All contestants must wear a cover up in the hallways prior to competing. Each contestant will be permitted to enter the top of the "T", walk it's length (one time only) and exit off the stairs located at the end of the stage. No constant posing or dancing will be permitted. Standard, upbeat music will be provided. Judging will be on high energy, good body, muscle tone and overall physical fitness. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

COVER COMPETITION
This competition is open to all modelling divisions. For the Cover competition, Contestants will submit their best photo (one photo only) showcasing their magazine cover potential to the CMTC Information Booth no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday May 9th. The print may be in colour or in black & white and of any size. For the Cover competition, the print MUST be loose and NOT be contained in a portfolio or envelope. The following information must be clearly printed on the back of the photo: Contestant's name, Contestant number (which contestants will receive in the registration package), division, competition name and school/agency name (if applicable). Contestants will not receive their photos back until Sunday May 12th and are responsible for picking up their photo between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at the CMTC Information Booth. It is recommended that Contestants laser or duplicate their photo so they have a copy in their portfolio as the original photo must be submitted for this competition. Winner's photos will be projected on screen at the Awards Banquet during the Cover Competition trophy presentation. Judging will be on cover potential. The decision of the judges will be final.

COMMERCIAL PRINT COMPETITION
This competition is open to all modelling and talent divisions. Commercial Print models appear in advertisements for products & services and come in all ages, heights, colours & shapes. Commercial Print models are essentially "real people" such as a mom, student, plumber, doctor, lawyer, nurse, grandparent, etc... Contestants entering this competition are to submit their best Commercial Print photo (one photo only) to the CMTC Information Booth no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday May 9th. The print may be in colour or in black & white and of any size. For this competition, the print MUST be loose and NOT be contained in a portfolio or envelope. The following information must be clearly printed on the back of the photo: Contestant's name, Contestant number (which contestants will receive in their registration package), division, competition name and school/agency name (if applicable). Contestants will not receive their photos back until Sunday May 12th and are responsible for picking up their photo between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at the CMTC Information Booth. It is recommended that Contestants laser or duplicate their photo so they have a copy in their portfolio as the original photo must be submitted for this competition. Winner's photos will be projected on screen at the Awards Banquet during the Commercial Print Competition trophy presentation. The decision of the judges will be final.

TV COMMERCIAL COMPETITION
Each Contestant will be granted 30 seconds to present their TV Commercial. Contestants are to slate their name, number and age only. Points will be deducted for any time over 30 seconds. As requested by the Agents judging, please be advised that a CMTC Representative will be present during the judging of this competition to time each competitor's TV Commercial reading. Contestants may present a published or an original commercial script. TV Commercial Competition performances that contain profanity or explicit adult material will result in immediate disqualification. This competition will give contestants an opportunity to be placed in a true audition situation as they will be presenting their TV Commercial live in front of the judging panel. The TV Commercial competition will take place on a closed set - no audience will be permitted. NO COSTUMES. Agents suggest that talent wear the most suitable wardrobe choice for auditions; a daytime, casual outfit. You do not want your outfit to overpower or distract from your audition. Contestants must stand upright (not sit or lay down) during their performance. No animals or extra participants will be permitted. Only carry-on props that are quick and easy to manoeuvre will be allowed. Judging is based on projection, articulation, wit, intelligence and believability. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

MONOLOGUE COMPETITION
This competition is available to all ages. Contestants may present a published or an original monologue. Contestants are to slate their name, number and age only. The contestant will be granted 60 seconds to deliver their monologue. Points will be deducted for any time over 60 seconds. At the discretion of the judges, scripts that do not adhere to the 60 second time limit will be cut off or be disqualified. As requested by the agents judging, please be advised that a CMTC Representative will be present during the judging of this competition to time each competitors reading. The monologue must be memorized. Contestants are to select a monologue which is appropriate to their gender and age. Monologue Competition performances that contain profanity or explicit adult material will result in immediate disqualification. The Monologue competition will take place on a closed set - no audience will be permitted. NO COSTUMES. Agents suggest that talent wear the most suitable wardrobe choice for auditions; a daytime, casual outfit. You do not want your outfit to overpower or distract from your performance. Basic set pieces such as a table and chair will be provided. Only carry-on props that are easy to maneuver and are not distracting will be permitted. No animals or extra participants are allowed. Judging is on projection, articulation, wit, intelligence, believability, acting range, preparedness, body language and ability to create your environment. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

COLD READING SCENE COMPETITION
This competition is available to ages 8 to 11 and ages 12 & over. The Cold Reading Scene competition is intended for serious actors or gifted amateurs. This competition is done live in front of the judging panel. The Cold Reading Scene competition will take place on a closed set - no audience will be permitted. No slating. A CMTC Representative will announce the Contestant numbers. Contestants will be partnered with other contestants during line-up and the pair will be given a short scene to read together. Partners may not be pre-arranged and will be assigned by CMTC staff. Contestants will be given their script approximately two to ten minutes before the competition during line-up. The contestant should carry the script into the judging room and refer to it as needed. Contestants will perform together but will be judged individually. NO COSTUMES. Agents suggest that talent wear the most suitable wardrobe choice for auditions; a daytime, casual outfit. You do not want your outfit to overpower or distract from your performance. Judging is on projection, articulation, wit, intelligence, believability, acting range, body language and overall ability to act in a cold read situation.


IMPROV COMPETITION
This competition is available to ages 12 & over only and is done live in front of the judging panel & an audience. Improv is a form of acting that is created on the spot, with little to no time to prepare. It is the practice of talking, acting & reacting in the moment and in response to one's environment. There are no scripts and no memorized dialogue. It is simply the contestant's ideas and energy. Improv Competition performances that contain profanity or explicit adult material will result in immediate disqualification. Judging is on ability to improvise, projection, articulation, wit, intelligence, believability, body language and ability to create your environment. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

KIDS CASTING COMPETITION
This competition is designed for and available to children ages 4 to 11 only. This competition is done live in front of the judging panel and closed to the audience. One Agent will act as the Casting Director asking questions and giving direction to the Contestants. During the competition, the Contestants will experience a true TV Commercial audition situation and the type of scenarios that could happen in an actual audition. For example, the Contestants may or may not be asked questions about themselves, may or may not be given a product or a scenario and asked to perform (improvise) or may or may not be given a short script (will be distributed at the discretion of the judges according to contestant's age) and asked to read to the judges. Agents judging have requested that children not rehearse or prepare for this competition as judging is based on how well the Contestant listens and takes direction, natural unrehearsed responses, projection, articulation, wit, intelligence, body language and personality. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

SINGING COMPETITION
This competition is available to ages 4 to 11 and ages 12 & over. Contestants entering the Singing competition will participate in a Preliminary Competition on Thursday evening in a closed judging room (no audience will be permitted) with the Preliminary Judges. During the Singing Competition Preliminaries, contestants will sing acapella for a approximately one minute and will be cut off at the judge's discretion. No musical accompaniment and no musical instruments will be permitted during the Preliminaries. Finalists will be posted at the CMTC Information Booth on Friday morning. The Singing Finalists will be performing live in front of an audience and the judges on Friday afternoon. For the Singing Finals, the following rules apply; All performances single acts only. Maximum 3 minutes in length or disqualified. As requested by the agents judging, please be advised that a CMTC Representative will be present during the judging of this competition to time each competitor. Music must be in CD format only (no musical instruments). No prominent background vocals are to be on the CD. At the judge's discretion, the music will be stopped at the three minute time limit. A microphone will be provided. At the Singing Finals, contestants are permitted to sing acapella, however, karaoke style music accompaniment is preferred. No musical instruments are permitted during the Finals. Contestants must supply a labelled back-up CD. CD's and a 3x5 commentary card must have the Contestant name, number, competition name, division, name of song, artist and School/Agency name (if applicable) clearly printed. Costume must be in good taste and non-flammable. No roller skates, roller blades, use of any sharp instruments or any equipment that CMTC or the Hilton Suites Toronto/Markham Conference Centre & Spa may deem dangerous. Songs / music that contain profanity or explicit adult material will result in immediate disqualification. Judging will be based on singing ability, audience appeal, stage presence, showmanship and appropriateness of wardrobe. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

DANCE COMPETITION
This competition is available to ages 4 to 11 and ages 12 & over. This competition is performed live in front of an audience and the judges. Single acts only. Maximum of two minutes in length or disqualified. As requested by the agents judging, a CMTC Representative will be present during the judging of this competition to time each competitor. Music must be in CD format only. The CD will be stopped at the two minute time limit. Contestant must supply a back-up CD labelled and ready for accompaniment. CD and a 3x5 commentary card must have the contestant's name, number, competition name, category, type of dance and school/agency name (if applicable) clearly printed. Contestants are to submit their CD, back-up CD and commentary card to the CMTC Information Booth between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Thursday May 9th. Costume must be in good taste and non-flammable. No props, chairs, roller skates, roller blades, use of any sharp instruments or any equipment that CMTC or the Hilton Suites Toronto Markham Conference Centre may deem dangerous. For the Dance Competition, the Contestants will perform on hardwood parquet flooring measuring approximately 32x16. Songs / music that contain profanity or explicit adult material will result in immediate disqualification. Judging will be based on dancing ability, audience appeal, stage presence and appropriateness of costume. The decision of the judges in all competitive areas will be final.

* NOTE: In the case where contestants select to be listed in the "Talent" division and enter modelling competitions, the contestant will line up in the modelling division pertaining to their gender and age (for example, a 15 year old female selects on their registration form to appear in the "Talent" division and enters the Runway Competition will line-up with the Ingenue 12-15 age group). Please note, there are NO Talent Division Awards for Modelling Competitions. This includes Photography Go-See, Runway, Swimsuit and Cover Competitions.
