In many ways, child actor Sydney C. is wise beyond her five years.
“This isn’t gold, it’s plastic!” was her response upon being presented with a trophy in a recent acting competition, laughed her mom, Jodi.
That’s a typical “Sydney” comment; she tends to see the world through the eyes of a drama queen, Jodi said.
But that’s coming in particularly handy in her blossoming acting career.
The “plastic” trophy presented to Sydney came earlier this month as a result of her first place finish – against 58 other contestants – in the TV Commercial competition at the Canadian Model & Talent Convention.
Simply competing was achievement enough, since it requires auditioning and being selected to participate. But that wasn’t enough for Sydney, who told her mom she really wanted to win.
So she did.
Participants in the TV commercial category were required to act out either an existing or new commercial. Jodi wrote a commercial based on ‘My Little Ponies’ – fittingly, since Sydney owns more than 40 – which Sydney acted out to take the top prize.
The national competition also included other categories related to drama and modelling. It serves as a n opportunity for casting agents from around the world to scout for talent.
Jodi explained that Sydney piqued the interest of an agent in Los Angeles, and they’re waiting to hear back regarding possible next steps.
The Kindergarten student has auditioned for several commercials, but hasn’t yet had the opportunity to do one. But she’s certainly no stranger to the world of acting.
“She’s very naturally dramatic and has been since the day she was born,” her mom said.
Just last year, Sydney appeared in a made for TV movie with John Stamos. At the age of three, she was in the movie Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. She has also been in a print ad and has a spot on a TV series startin in June on the Comedy Network entitled ‘Hotbox’.
